What Is Botox?

Botox, and Dysport are the quickest and most effective ways to treat unwanted wrinkles. As we age, our skin loses elasticity. This is caused by things such as sun exposure, hormones, genetics and the aging process in general. The result? Skin that looks tired, stressed and older than your age. That’s where Botox comes in!
Botox and Dysport are also called neuromodulators, stop the nerve signals that tell your muscles to contract. This temporary blocking of muscle contractions is what helps eliminates fine lines and wrinkles.
Untreated areas of the face remain unaffected. Side effects are rare and usually limited to the site of injection which includes mild redness, inflammation, and/or bruising (can last 1 to 7 days). Headaches after injections are also common.

What Are The Differences Between Botox and Dysport?

While Botox and Dysport are made up of Botulinum toxin Type A, their formula differs in the number of accessory proteins they obtain. Botox has the most accessory proteins, thus is it considered the ‘heaviest’ injectable. Further down the line is Dysport, which has a considerably lower amount of added proteins.
Due to a large number of accessory proteins, Botox contains, patients may build up a tolerance to the injectable requiring the injector to increase the dose or switch to another option like Dysport. Dysport further stands out from the other toxins because it kicks in quicker and typically lasts longer. This leads to the benefit of saving hundreds of dollars by only having to come to in 3 times a year as opposed to 4-5 times with Botox.

How Long Does It Take To Start Working?

This is a very common question and a good one to ask. Botox and Dysport results are NOT immediate. It will take several days for the muscles to respond; however, your final result is 2 weeks. At the 2-week mark if you feel like an eyebrow is uneven or you need more units, we can touch it up. Remember, the reduction in lines and wrinkles is temporary with toxins. On average, Botox can last for approximately 3 to 4 months, while Dysport can last 4-6 months.

Average Number of Units (Cost is priced per unit)
We receive many calls asking how many units they will need. It largely depends on how much wrinkle movement you have and how much movement you’d like to have after injections (for example some people like to have zero movement while others feel that it’s more natural to have a little movement). This chart shows is the average number of units a person may need. Please remember the specified range of units needed per area in the chart below is a generalization.
